Bison Clinic wins the 2007 National Health Service Corps Award of Excellence
Dan Kvale, PA-C, Bison Community Clinic
Bison Community Clinic was selected as the one and only recipient (NATIONWIDE) of the 2007 National Health Service Corps Award of Excellence.
The Bison Clinic has been selected as the 2007 National Health Service Corps Awards of Excellence winner for the small clinic division. The award recognizes the collaborative efforts of clinic administrators, clinicians, support staff and the communities who have worked tirelessly to improve the health of our Nation’s undeserved.
Dan Kvale, PA-C, submitted an essay and samples of materials used by the clinic to the competition in May. The Clinic was notified late last week that they had been selected as winners in the competition.
Bison Clinic was chosen because it excelled in three categories during the 2006 calendar year. The clinic showed creation and growth of vital community partnerships that improve and expand health care services offered at the clinic. It also showed health education and preventive care programs which are offered to community members to improve their overall health and wellness. Lastly, the clinic demonstrated team building and enrichment programs that strengthen staff cohesion, coordination and competency.
In his essay, Kvale highlighted the Ronald McDonald/Delta Dental bus which brings affordable pediatric dental care to Bison. In 2006, the bus provided services to 32 children in three days.
He also talked about the clinic staff’s relationship with the local volunteer EMT squad. The clinic provides continuing education for the EMT’s to help them maintain their certifications. This is provided at no cost because the clinic’s nurse volunteers her time to teach.
