Beautification Committee Meets
As many of you know the HORIZONS project held a community event at the Bentley Building in December of 2007. Three committees were formed as a result of that event: Town Beautification, Economic Development and Community Activities/Youth Involvement. The Beautification committee met february 27th to discuss ways in which we can help the community look more appealing to visitors in town for the Centennial. Short and long term projects were discussed. In the short term, Coleman Avenue and Main Street were to be the focus and, in addition, it was decided that we could offer general services to residents that are unable to conduct such activities on their own such as tree pruning, mowing and general cleanup. We could repaint the façade of the old bar and remove the sign, possibly paint a house, and offer the Master Gardeners some financial support towards their ‘barrel’ project. Long term projects might include moving junk vehicles to the landfill and have them crushed and removed, paint another house or two, tree plantings or anything else within our limits that might possibly come up. It sounds like you have a lot of projects to get going. Great job getting this blogging thing going.

I think that this would be a great place to list our specific projects, who is in charge along with ideas of when you want things to come together. That way, maybe we can gather some volunteers out of this blog.

Terry, it really sounds like the Beautification committee has taken off. What a job we all have in front of us before the centennial is here in June.

As of April 2nd I have spoken to John P about painting the facade of his building and he has agreed; he also agreed to have Merilee W do a mural on his and city bldg. Will meet City council monday night to get permission to paint top half of bldg, take down sign hardware, paint mural and ask them to supply paint. Left message with Merilee W requesting her availability to do the mural. Found sprayer and will make sure that works. Spoke with city council and Tracy B about tree removal - Tracy is checking on it.
