Bison's demographics thumbnail

I just wanted to take a minute to write about a new page I created.  It maybe can create a little more knowledge and awareness about the level of poverty in Bison.  This page shows us in graph format the occupations, education, income, marital status, racial diversity (or lack of) and ages in the Bison area compared to the entire state of South Dakota, and also to the United States.

It also includes a map of Bison.  This is an interesting page.  Please check out the page, it is listed on the right as “Bison’s Demographics”.

Bison Clean-up

Sunday, December 2nd, 2007

The Horizons II has brought to us more of an understanding of the situation of run down buildings in Bison.  We no longer look at run-down buildings, and think that it is completely from a lack of care.  We have come to the realization that a lot of this is due to our economy and the situations that some of our citizens are in.  When there is an elderly person in town living on $500/month, that has to save to buy herself a new $15 remote control……it makes you think about it a little more.  We are looking into the “South Dakota Paint” project, setting up clean-up days, and coordinating local people with their resources to Clean up the town.  Let’s not dwell on the negative….let’s get busy and help them to clean up our town!  Check back with us to see how we are coming along.

The Survey’s Are In!

Thursday, November 8th, 2007

bison leadership skillsRemember those “FUN” pre and post surveys that the Horizons Staff had you take during Study Circles and LeadershipPLENTY?

Believe it or not - it was for a purpose!  Those pre & post survey’s help us to understand how much your community learned about poverty and about leadership by your participation in those specified curriculums.

As a result, we have assembled a community profile with the results of the pre & post surveys for both Study Circles and LeadershipPLENTY.  Check out your community results by clicking on the links found under “Survey Data” on the right hand side of your community blog.
